Description

Tai Cochion is a two-storey house with a cross-shaped plan, and the main elevation faces east. The original 17th-century part of the house is L-shaped, consisting of an advanced wing at the front and a range to the left. The walls are made of rubble with boulder foundations, and they are roughcast rendered and painted a deep red. The slate roof features square stone gable-end stacks with dripstones and capping, with the stack on the advanced wing being particularly tall. The main range has one 16-pane sash window on each storey, while the windows in the wing are similar in size but set out of alignment. The north side of the wing includes a gabled dormer window with a 12-pane sash window above a square-headed door. There is a very small window with a single pane in the angle to the right. The gable end of the wing has a first-floor window directly below the chimney, which is a 16-pane horizontally sliding sash, along with a small window on the ground floor. On the south side of the wing, there is a small window on the first floor.

The 18th-century addition to the right is a two-storey range with two windows, featuring gabled dormers and a gable-end chimney, with the ridge at the same height as the original house. This range was remodelled in the late 19th century after a fire. It also has rubble walls with boulder foundations, particularly massive at the corner, and is roughcast rendered and painted a deep red. The dormer windows are 24-pane sashes. On the ground floor, there is a 32-pane French window to the left and a 32-pane sash window to the right. In the gable, there is an 8-pane sash window.
