Description

Bryn Ddu is a two-storey gentry house that dates back to the 19th century. It has a loosely symmetrical design featuring a three-window main range flanked by two advanced wings, with gabled service wings at the rear. The exterior is rendered over rubble, topped with a slate roof that has rendered rectangular axial and gable stacks, along with a shouldered lateral stack on the left side.

The principal elevation faces south and includes an entrance in a gabled porch, which features a panelled door beneath a rectangular fanlight. The windows are 12-pane hornless sashes. The left gable wing has two ground floor windows and one first floor window, while the left return has two windows at either end and a doorway at the far left. The first floor has two windows positioned to the left of the shouldered lateral stack. The right gable wing also has two intermediate height windows, with the left return featuring a single ground floor window. The right return has a single-storey lean-to addition that is offset to the front, with a gabled dormer above and a single ground floor window to the left, three windows to the right, and three first floor windows spaced along the range. The rear of the house has gabled wings and dormers, along with single-storey lean-to additions.

Inside, there is a central entry leading into a hall-vestibule, with the principal rooms branching off from this area. A stone staircase with ornate iron balusters is located at the rear, leading to a passage that connects to the service wings on the right side. The central room and the right wing feature rough hewn beams, and the right wing also contains a large inglenook fireplace, which is now enclosed.
