Description

Garden Cottage is a single-storey cottage with a cruciform plan, built in the 19th century. It features a slightly taller gabled wing at the eastern end and a timber porch on the western side. The cottage is constructed from rubble masonry, with the seaward (southern) elevation having rendered dressings and a pebble facade, while the other elevations are roughcast rendered. The roof is covered with hexagonal slates, featuring projecting eaves and verges, and has rendered ridge stacks with capping.

Entry to the cottage is through the west gable, via a six-panelled door beneath a rectangular fanlight. The windows are slightly recessed sashes, comprising 12-pane and 4-pane designs, along with a French window that has flanking lights in the gable end of the southern wing. Attached to the side wall of the cottage and enclosing the grounds is a low rubble wall, which is embattled and capped with thin limestone slabs, forming the upper part of an embattled sea wall. This wall features four embrasures along the southern stretch facing the sea.
