Description

The Union Canal Museum, located on Manse Road in Linlithgow, is a building designed by engineer Hugh Baird around 1820. It is a single-storey structure with a rectangular plan, featuring six bays. Originally, the building served as two stables at the west end and a cottage at the east end, but it has since been converted into the Union Canal Museum and a tearoom. The exterior is made of snecked cream squared rubble sandstone and is positioned against the garden wall of the nearby villa, Rockville, to the south, while it overlooks the Canal Basin to the north.

The stables have segmental arched openings, with timber doors and timber shutters on the windows. The building features small pane timber glazing in sash and case windows. The roof is mono-pitched, covered with grey slates, and has ashlar coped skews along with a single rendered stack.
