Description

The Dormitory Block at Bangour Village Hospital, designed by Hippolyte J. Blanc, was begun in 1898 and completed in 1906. This three-storey building features a gabled, asymmetrical design in a restrained Scots Renaissance style, with six bays across the front and five bays along the sides. It is set within a large rural hospital complex and constructed from roughly coursed and snecked sandstone, accented with ashlar margins. The building has a base course and cornice, with round-arched dormer heads and some bi-partite windows in the gables. The gables are shouldered, with some featuring stacks at the apex. There is a single-storey section to the north and a later metal-clad extension to the east.

On the south elevation, which is the principal façade, there are six bays. The far left bay is gabled and has a canted, corniced four-light window on the ground floor, with bi-partite windows above. There is an off-centre former moulded doorpiece that once held the entrance door. To the left, there are two gabled bays with a similar four-light canted and corniced window on the ground floor. The far left also includes a single-storey section with two bays and a round-arched doorway featuring a moulded doorpiece.

The building predominantly features 12-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows, with some boarded-up. The roof is covered with rosemary tiles, highlighted by decorative red ridge tiles, and includes stacks at both the apex and wallhead. The interior was not seen during the last inspection in 2011.
