Description
Honeysuckle Cottage, located at Bangour Village Hospital, is a detached house designed by Hippolyte J Blanc, begun in 1898 and completed in 1906. This two-storey, three-bay building has a square plan and is situated near the entrance of the former colony hospital complex. It features a concrete render with contrasting red ashlar margins, a deep, stugged sandstone base course, and a red ashlar cornice with a moulded band course. The deep overhanging bracketed eaves and raised cills add to its architectural detail. The windows are bi-partite and tri-partite, and there is a single-storey, piended roof section to the east, along with a shallow canted three-light window on the ground floor at the east side.
The principal (entrance) elevation showcases a central raised and corniced doorpiece with a panelled timber entrance door. The building predominantly has multi-pane timber casement windows and a piended roof with a central corniced stack at the apex, covered with red roof tiles.
Inside, as observed in 2011, the original room layout remains largely intact. The interior features a curving staircase with a timber banister, balusters, and newels, along with some decorative timber fire surrounds and four-panel timber doors.
