Description

Hippolyte J Blanc, begun 1898, completed 1906. 2-storey with breaking-eaves dormers. 10- by 8-bay asymmetrical, shouldered-gabled restrained Scots Renaissance former hospital villa, situated within large rural hospital complex. Roughly coursed and snecked sandstone with contrasting red sandstone ashlar margins. Base course. Round-arched dormer heads. Some bi-partite windows. Single-storey block to E and later full-height extension to N.

S (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: off-centre 2-bay gabled section with 4-light canted window to ground with blocking course. Advanced gabled bay to far left with canted 4-light window to ground. Moulded doorpiece to left of advanced bay with former entrance door. Single-storey block to far right with further moulded doorpiece and entrance door.

Some windows boarded. Predominantly 6- pane glazing pattern to upper sashes in timber sash and case windows. Grey slates with decorative red ridge tiles. Wallhead and gable stacks. Raised skews.

INTERIOR: not seen (2011).
