Description

Hippolyte J Blanc, 1906. Largely single storey with 2-storey range to N. Complex of plant buildings forming double courtyard-plan and including former power station with tall, circular brick chimney stack to E and row of 2-storey workshops to N. Situated at the entrance to the site. Rubble with ashlar margins; some concrete render. Raised cills. Base course, cornice. Variety of window and door openings; some round-arched. Later gabled shed to SW with corrugated iron roof.

S ELEVATION: 3-bay piended-roof former sheds to W with cart openings and boarded timber doors. Lower flat-roofed structure to E.

N ELEVATION: 2-storey, 10-bay row of former workshops with upper storey breaking wallhead and piended roofs.

W ELEVATION: single-storey 5-bay former workshop block to N. Off-centre entrance opening to courtyard to right and later shed to far right.

E ELEVATION: 4-bay former workshop structure to right with lower, piended-roof sheds to left.

E (INTERNAL COURTYARD) ELEVATION: rectangular-plan courtyard with surrounding single-storey buildings. Open shed to S supported by cast-iron columns. Some setts to ground.

CHIMNEY STACK: tall, tapered, red brick chimney stack to E courtyard with narrow pilaster detail.

Piended roofs, grey slate; red ridge tiles. Some windows boarded; other 6-pane glazing pattern to upper sash with horns in timber sash and case windows. Some multi-pane fixed glazing patterns.
