Description

The former power station complex at Bangour Village Hospital, designed by Hippolyte J Blanc in 1906, is primarily a single-storey structure with a two-storey range to the north. It features a double courtyard plan and includes a tall, circular brick chimney stack to the east, along with a row of two-storey workshops to the north. The buildings are located at the entrance to the site and are constructed of rubble with ashlar margins, with some areas finished in concrete render. The design includes raised cills, a base course, and a cornice, with a variety of window and door openings, including some round-arched windows. There is also a later gabled shed to the southwest with a corrugated iron roof.

On the south elevation, there are three bays of former sheds with piended roofs, featuring cart openings and boarded timber doors, alongside a lower flat-roofed structure to the east. The north elevation showcases a two-storey, ten-bay row of former workshops, with the upper storey breaking the wallhead and piended roofs. The west elevation consists of a single-storey, five-bay former workshop block to the north, with an off-centre entrance opening to the courtyard on the right and a later shed to the far right.

The east elevation includes a four-bay former workshop structure on the right, with lower piended-roof sheds to the left. The internal courtyard features a rectangular plan surrounded by single-storey buildings, with an open shed to the south supported by cast-iron columns and some setts on the ground.

The chimney stack is a tall, tapered red brick structure located in the east courtyard, adorned with narrow pilaster details. The roofs are piended and covered with grey slate, featuring red ridge tiles. Some windows are boarded, while others have a six-pane glazing pattern in the upper sash with horns, set in timber sash and case windows, along with some multi-pane fixed glazing patterns.
