Description
Loch Chon Aqueduct No 3, formerly part of the Glasgow Corporation Water Works, was constructed between 1855 and 1859 by engineer John F Bateman, with contractors Robert Simpson, John Parkinson, and Joseph Mann from Halifax. The aqueduct is a low-lying structure featuring 13 bays and is approximately 16 yards long. It consists of a cast-iron trough that is supported by a masonry base and a short girder-section over a stream. At each end, there is a whinstone archway with a red sandstone coping and voussoirs. The central sluice mechanism is marked B3G. The aqueduct also has a cover and railings added in 2007.
