Description
The Corrie Aqueduct Bridge, part of the former Glasgow Corporation Water Works, was designed by engineer John F Bateman and constructed by Wylie-Smith-Davie in 1858, with some alterations made between 1860 and 1864. This relatively low-lying aqueduct bridge spans 332 yards and features an iron trough supported by two earth and battered masonry embankments, along with a single battered masonry pier at the center. The trough consists of cast iron for the embankment sections and riveted wrought iron in the center, while the pier and embankments are made of coursed, bull-faced sandstone. The structure is topped with sandstone ashlar coping and includes regularly spaced gated manhole entrances on the masonry embankments. At each end, the conduit emerges from a sandstone archway, and standard plain cast-iron railings from the Glasgow Corporation Water Works line the structure. In 2007, security covers and railings were added to the embankment sections of the trough.
