Description
This milepost is part of a series of similar markers located between Aberfoyle and Stronachlachar. It dates from the late 19th century, a time when tourism surged in the area around Aberfoyle, Loch Lomond, and Loch Katrine, making the road between Aberfoyle and Stronachlachar a popular route for visitors. The milepost is set in the grass verge alongside the road and is made of hollow cast iron with two angled faces. The column tapers to a faceted head that features two panels of raised lettering: one side reads 'ABERFOYLE 8 MILES' and the other 'STRONACHLACHAR 3 ¼ MILES'. This post, produced by the Grangemouth Iron Works, is painted white with black detailing on the raised elements. The milepost enhances the road's appearance.
