Milepost At Nn50481/01369

This milepost is part of a series of similar markers located between Aberfoyle and Stronachlachar. It dates from the later 19th century, a time when tourism around Aberfoyle, Loch Lomond, and Loch Katrine significantly increased, making the road between Aberfoyle and Stronachlachar a popular tourist route. Positioned in the grass verge along the road, the post is made of hollow cast iron and features two angled faces. The column tapers to a faceted head that displays two panels of raised lettering: one side reads 'ABERFOYLE 1 MILE' and the other 'STRONACHLACHAR 10 ¼ MILES'. Manufactured by the Grangemouth Iron Works, the post is painted white with black detailing highlighting the raised letters. This milepost enhances the overall appearance of the road.
