Description
Braeside Cottage is a mid-19th century single-storey cottage with a rectangular plan and features inspired by Thomsonesque Italianate style. The building is constructed from whinstone and sandstone rubble, accented with painted channelled sandstone ashlar margins and round-arched windows. It has projecting eaves and exposed rafters, along with a delicate decorative bargeboard detail at the gable apex.
On the main elevation, there is a broad gable with a tripartite window to the left and a recessed bay with a bipartite window to the right. The entrance elevation features a gabled porch that is advanced to the right, with a round-arched window and door on the left return, and a window to the left, along with a slightly lower and recessed bay to the outer left.
The cottage has timber lying-pane sash and case windows, a graded grey slate roof with lead flashings, and tall, paired square corniced stacks. There is a sandstone chimney on the west apex with an octagonal can, and hoop iron railings complete the exterior.
