Description
4 The Square in Drymen is a symmetrical and distinctive three-bay cottage, prominently located within The Square and making an important contribution to the area. The cottage is dated 1864, as noted on the left-hand upstairs window lintel. It is a single-storey building with an attic, featuring two wall-head and barge-boarded gables, each with an attic window. The stonework is brown-painted, consisting of coursed rubble with ashlar detailing, including horizontal skewputts. The original windows are sash and case, with eight panes on the ground floor and two over four on the upper floor. The roofs are pitched and slated, with gable end stacks that have polygonal fireclay cans. There is a modern two-leaf timber plank door with an original rectangular fanlight. At the rear, there is a single-storey, flat-roofed extension.
