Description
This building is a former United Secession chapel located on Stirling Road in Drymen, dating back to 1819, with additions made in the late 19th and late 20th centuries. It has a rectangular plan and consists of two bays, featuring a plain design with round-arched windows. A late 19th century porch is located on the east side, and there is a large addition from the late 20th century to the north. The exterior is harled, with painted ashlar dressings on the original block, and it has slightly projecting eaves and purlins ends.
On the north and south elevations, there is a large window in each bay of the original block. The windows on the north side have keystones and similar splayed dressings at the springing point of the arch. The late 19th century porch, which is set back to the east, features a round-arched entrance topped by a gable on the south side, with a two-leaf boarded timber door. There is a re-used sandstone plaque carved as an open book with a finger pointing at the center, inscribed with 'Christ Is Head Over All His Body The Church 1761', located on the gable. To the left of the door, there is a small round-arched window, and the large late 20th century addition extends to the west in front of the original block.
The east elevation shows the gable end of the late 19th century porch adjoining the blank gable end of the original block, with three windows visible. There is also a window in the addition to the right, and the large late 20th century addition is set back on the outer right.
The building features leaded fixed light windows and has a grey slate roof. Inside, the interior is plain, with a later boarded timber dado. A marble tablet inscribed 'In Memory of Rev. Andrew Wilson, Minister of Drymen United Free Church 1857-1904' is located on the west wall.
