Description

The Royal Bridge in Ballater, designed by engineers Jenkins & Marr in 1885, is a four-span segmental arched bridge over the River Dee that serves as a gateway to Ballater from the east. It is constructed from squared and coursed pink granite, featuring pinning stones. The bridge has a simple stepped parapet with saddleback coping and bullnosed cutwaters. The central cutwaters are extended and corbelled out to create a pair of recessed refuges that include inscriptions. Additionally, there are pairs of engaged circular piers at both the west and east approaches, each topped with rounded caps.
