Description
Kirkmichael Parish Church is an 1807 building, renovated in 1951 following a fire. The church was designed by Colonel A Cattanach of Kingussie. The simple rectangular structure is built of coursed rubble with tooled dressings. The south elevation features four round-headed windows with iron shutter hinges. A projecting gabled porch is present, and the centre of the east gable has a former gallery window above, with a small re-set stone mask in the gablet. A bellcote is positioned at the apex of the west gable. The roof is slate, incorporating roofing materials from the former Free Church at Craggan.
The interior was re-cast in 1951, incorporating re-used pews and fittings from the Free Church at Craggan. A new pulpit and Minister's chair were added that year.
The church is set within a rubble-walled burial ground containing 19th and 20th century tombstones, including some made from local slate. The entrance is flanked by a pair of simple gatepiers. The building remains in ecclesiastical use.
