Description
This is an early 19th century farmhouse situated within the Cairngorms National Park. It is a two-storey, three-bay building with single-storey, two-bay wings projecting to the rear, forming a back courtyard. The farmhouse is constructed of roughly squared granite rubble. The front features a central door, and twelve-pane glazing is present on some windows. A modern window has been inserted into the north wing, and garage doors have been added to the south wing. Two modern dormers are located at the rear. End stacks are present on the main house, and a ridge stack is on the south wing. The roof is piended and slate-covered, with some original Tomintoul slating surviving. Historical records from 1842 indicate that Ruthven was one of four farms in the parish that had seen significant improvements in recent years, describing the buildings as "very substantial and commodious." The farm steading is not included in this listing.
