Description
The Chamois Deer Statue and Fountain, located on the western parterre of Balmoral Castle, features a fountain basin that dates to around 1855. The statue, created by M Geiss in Berlin in the late 19th century, was painted in 1929 and refurbished by Charles Henshaw in 1986. The statue is a carved bronze depiction of a chamois deer, painted to appear lifelike, and is set within a recessed, circular basin made of pink granite. The deer stands on a rocky outcrop atop a pink granite cubic pedestal, which has cast-iron lion mask spouts on each face.
