Description
Larders at Birkhall, built around 1935 and 1950, consist of two timber game larders located at the rear of the stables.
The earlier larder is polygonal in shape, constructed with boarded timber on a granite base. It features overhanging eaves supported by slender polygonal timber posts. There is a door on one side with a gauze screened panel, and gauze screens on four sides with additional gauze screened panels above the door. The roof is polygonal, covered with tarred felt, and includes timber flashing and a finial.
The later larder has a rectangular plan and is made of lathed timber on a concrete base. The principal elevation has two doors, with a two-leaf door on the left, flanking a high fixed gauze screened window. Similar high gauze screened windows are present on the other sides. The roof is covered with grey slate, featuring lead flashings and a louvred timber ventilator topped with a ball finial.
