Description
Dated 1797, Dorsincilly is a quadrangular farm steading with a mid-19th century T-plan farmhouse extension to the south, and later alterations throughout. The steading is constructed of squared and coursed granite with whinstone pinning, now largely masked by pointing, and features some ashlar dressings and harl pointing.
The southwest range comprises 11 symmetrical bays, incorporating the farmhouse to the outer right. The central seven bays are single-storeyed. A gabled entrance bay features a deep segmental-arched pend that breaks the eaves and is topped by an ashlar birdcage bellcote with a weathervane finial; the date ‘1797’ is carved into the gablehead. Lower segmental cartshed arches are positioned beneath each side of the pend, flanked by windows hidden behind sliding machinery doors. Broad doors are located in the outer bays of the single-storeyed range. Two chimneyheaded gables are present at the far right, each with a window to the ground floor, one on each side of the gable, and loft windows in each gable. The courtyard elevation is largely blank, with a simple gable above the central pend. Doors are located in the re-entrant angles to the left and right.
The northwest range is two-storeys high, with an upper granary/hayloft. It has three segmental cartshed arches with keystones on the right side. A timber-gabled hayloft breaks the eaves to the right of the centre. The site of a former threshing machine is visible to the left of the centre, flanked by a door and a louvred granary window. The courtyard elevation has four bays, with a window to the right of the centre and a door in each of the remaining bays.
The southeast range is adjoined to the south by the farmhouse extension, which originates from the original bothy. A window belonging to the original farmhouse is on the left, flanked to the right by a window, a pend entrance, and a further window. The courtyard elevation features two doors flanking the centre, with the right door serving as a pend entrance; a gabled hayloft door is positioned to the left of the left door, and a window is set by the re-entrant angle. A farmhouse/bothy window is situated to the right, flanking a raised chimneybreast, with a further door in the re-entrant angle.
The northeast range has been altered, with a blocked door to the courtyard. A granite wall has been extended upwards with corrugated sheets topped by a corrugated roof.
The farmhouse is a T-plan addition facing southeast, comprised of a three-bay range with a panelled door at the centre, supported by pilastered jambs and a two-pane fanlight. This is flanked to the left by a timber canted window on a granite base, with a canted slate-hung dormer above, and to the right by a window with a piend-roofed dormer above. A blank return gable is on the right, with a window on the return to the left. A link wing connects to the steading range and includes a recessed window flush with the range and a further dormer. A timber lean-to shed is located at the rear. The farmhouse incorporates the former bothy, extending from it.
The windows are mostly sash and case, with small panes; four panes are found in dormers and earlier windows, while some are modern plate glass. Gablehead stacks are present. The building has ashlar coped skews. The roofing consists of graded grey slates, with stone ridges and a clay ridge to the mid-19th century farmhouse.
