Description
Beechcroft, located at 17 Clarendon Place in Stirling, is a large, asymmetrical 2-storey Italianate villa built around 1860 by Francis and William Mackison. The entrance front is L-shaped and features a 4-storey tower at the re-entrant angle. To the left, there is a single window with a dormer head, and on the right, a gable front with one window. The tower has a round-arched doorpiece framed by nook-shafts and elaborate consoles, with a balustraded balcony above. The first stage of the tower includes single arched windows with keyblocks, while the second stage has paired windows, and the top stage features triplet windows in square recesses along with elaborate bargeboarded gables and low-pitched slated roofs.
The west front is asymmetrical, showcasing a ground floor canted bay in the gabled section on the right, a central round-arched oriel with a spired roof, and a 2-window section on the left. There is a modern timber and smoked glass lean-to extension on the east front, which also has a lower 2-storey wing to the right that is partly gable fronted and includes an arched porch. The north front is also asymmetrical, featuring a large canted bay that is corbelled to square and gabled on the west side.
