Description
Glengarry Lodge, located at 56 Spittal Street in Stirling, is a 17th-century building that underwent extensive restoration in 1959, including an addition to Baker Street on sloping ground. The structure is three stories high with a sunken ground floor and an attic, featuring four bays. The exterior is finished in stucco with painted margins, and it includes a stair tower, swept dormers, projecting cills, and crowstepped gables.
On the south elevation facing Spittal Street, there is a conical-roofed round stair tower topped with a ball finial. The entrance is located on the left side of the tower, with small pointed arch windows at each landing. Small windows are positioned at the ground level in the bays to the left and right, while the upper floors display regular fenestration.
The north elevation facing Baker Street consists of four stories with an attic and three bays. It features two windows at the ground level in the center, with two additional windows above on the second and third floors. Triangular-headed dormers interrupt the eaves. A door is located on the ground level to the left, accompanied by two small windows on the first floor and a window above on the second floor. To the right, there is a bay added around 1959, which is gabled and advanced with crowsteps. This bay includes two closely spaced large round-headed windows at the ground level, small windows on the first floor, and two windows each on the second and third floors, with a stone-mullioned tripartite window in the gable head.
