Description
The Council Offices at 17 Gladstone Place in Stirling is a mid-Victorian semi-detached villa that features an asymmetrical design with two stories and an attic, built from coursed rubble. It is situated on a corner site.
The Gladstone Place side has a two-window arrangement between advanced end sections that include rectangular bays, which are treated with stilted lintels. There is an off-centre porch with pilasters and a square column located in the re-entrant angle, along with a chimney on the center wallhead. The Snowdon Place side has a right-hand advanced section with a rectangular bay similar to the other side, and it also features a square-columned porch in the re-entrant angle, with a three-window arrangement to the left. The roofs are French truncated pyramids with a distinct bell cast and small round-arched dormers—four on the Gladstone Place side and one on the Snowdon Place side.
The boundary wall and railings to the south and east consist of a low stone wall topped with cast iron railings featuring stiletto baluster heads. There are ornamental decorative cast iron cages with finials surrounding a central upright support and at the corners.
