Royal Hotel, Henderson Street, Bridge Of Allan

The Royal Hotel, located on Henderson Street in Bridge of Allan, was built in 1842 and is a large late classical hotel with some neo-Jacobean details. The building is three stories tall with a basement and is painted with margins. The western section of the frontage features a three-window arrangement with a central Roman Doric column porch, flanked by two-storey canted bays. The second floor has Jacobean dormer heads. The eastern section has a broad asymmetrical gable front, with one window on the left (a ground floor window that is consoled) and a canted bay extending through the ground and first floors on the right, which has a tripartite window on the second floor. The eastern front also includes an asymmetrical canted bay through the ground and first floors on the left, with an altered tripartite window above, and a two-window gable on the right with consoled ground floor windows. Unfortunately, the chimneyheads have been removed. While the original glazing has been preserved, the overall appearance has been affected by alterations to the western gable, the addition of a lift shaft, and the removal of chimneys. There is also a large stone-built late Victorian addition on the northeast, featuring a tourelle.
