Description
View Vale, located at 9 New Road in Bannockburn, is a substantial building dating from around 1880, designed in a French Renaissance style. It features two storeys and an attic, with an asymmetrical columned loggia at the ground level that includes a shell motif in the arched head. The building is constructed of ashlar stone with polished dressings.
The left bay of the building has a projecting tower with pilastered angles. There is an oculus in the spandrel above a balconied window on the first floor, which is adorned with a modillion cornice. The off-centre Ionic columned porch is complemented by a pilastered bipartite window to the left. The steep truncated pyramid roof is detailed with dormers that have mullion and transom windows, featuring a swagged entablature.
To the right, there is a full-height canted bay with pilastered sections and elaborate mullion or mullion and transom windows. The main roof is a mansard style, with all roofs slated in a pattern of fishscale bands. A bipartite dormer, which is pilastered, pedimented, and finialed, is set into the very steep facetted roof, which also has intricate cast-iron brattishing. The building is topped with corniced stacks that have barley sugar flues.
