Description
The James Wilson Academy, located at 33 Main Street in Bannockburn, was founded in 1848 and built around 1850. This two-storey, three-bay schoolhouse features classical detailing. The building is constructed of ashlar stone with squared rubble on the sides and rear, the latter being partly harled.
Giant pilasters frame each bay, and there is a central pediment along with a cornice and parapet. The central entrance is highlighted by a pilastered doorpiece that includes a panelled door and a rectangular fanlight above. The windows are architraved, with 12 panes on the ground floor and 9 panes on the first floor. The building has corniced end stacks and a piended slate roof. To the left, there is a screen wall with a square-headed opening.
