Description
Limetree is a villa located at 371 Glasgow Road, Burnbank, Hamilton, built in the later 19th century with various additions from the 20th century. It is a single-storey and attic structure with a basic rectangular plan and three bays. The exterior features stugged grey sandstone coursers with ashlar dressings, including quoins that are regularly perforated for a modern masonry treatment. The right return gable is rendered and lined, while the left return gable is harled. The roof is slate-covered.
Architectural details include a base course and a corniced wallhead course, along with canted windows that have plate glass sash and case frames, and stepped cills leading to a wallhead cornice adorned with decorative cast-iron parapets. The villa has canted dormers with modern single-pane glazing, decorative cast-iron ridges and finials, and anthemion pattern cast-iron bargeboards on the gables. There are cut-down end stacks and cast-iron rainwater goods.
On the front elevation, the central door features a round-headed fanlight and a moulded concave doorpiece. There are canted windows on both the left and right sides, two dormers above, and a small round-headed dormer in the centre. There are also single-storey additions to the left and right return gables.
The interior has not been seen. The property is enclosed by a saddleback-coped ashlar boundary wall at the front, which includes four gatepiers.
