Description
Townhead Cottage, dated 1843, is a single-storey, six-bay, paired L-plan cottage designed in an estate style. It features a prominent stone gabled bay on the penultimate right, which has a shaped hoodmold and an infilled slit detail at the apex. The cottage has timber-bracketed overhanging eaves with cross bracing and delicate timber finials at the gable apexes. The exterior is made of finely tooled whinstone rubble with droved sandstone quoins.
There is a later 20th-century rendered extension at the rear, creating a U-plan layout. Townhead Cottage is located to the south, with Barjols to the north. The principal elevation has 12-pane lying-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows, while the rear features later 20th-century glazing patterns. The doors are plain boarded, and the roof is covered with grey slates. The cottage has shouldered diamond-plan shafted ridge stacks and cast-iron rainwater goods.
