Description
35-45 High Street in Ayr is a late 19th-century building that underwent alterations by J K Hunter in 1903. It features a three-storey, five-bay symmetrical curved corner block with shops on the ground floor. The entrance elevation is finished in polished red ashlar, while the sides are constructed from rubble. A cornice separates the first and second floors, and there is a blocking course with a rectangular panel above the central bay, along with dies on the outer left and right. Wide pilasters separate the bays, with double consoles on the frieze above, and narrower pilasters dividing the windows.
On the northeast (entrance) elevation, there are central entrances for Nos 35 (with a modern glazed door), 37 (with a timber door), 37B (with a modern glazed door), and 39 (with a glazed timber door) at ground level. Each upper floor bay has a regular three-window arrangement, except for the central bay, which has a single window.
The first and second floors feature plate glass timber sash and case windows. The roof is covered with grey slate, and there is a stack at the gablehead to the right. The interiors were not seen in 1998.
