Description
This building, located at 2-4 Springvale Road in Ayr, dates from around 1863 and consists of a pair of single-storey and attic cottages with three bays each. The cottages feature a base course and architraved windows on the ground floor, along with canted dormers in the attic.
The southwest elevation, which serves as the entrance, has central square-headed doors for both cottages made of timber, each with letterbox fanlights above. There are single windows flanking the entrances, and the dormers are positioned above these windows on the outer right and left sides of the attic.
The southeast, northeast, and northwest elevations were not visible as of 1999. The cottages have timber sash and case windows with lying panes. The roof is covered with slate, featuring stone skews, rooflights, and both ridge and gablehead stacks, predominantly with polygonal cans. The rainwater goods are made of cast iron.
The interiors were not seen in 1999. Additionally, there are square-plan gatepiers at the entrance, an ornate iron gate leading to No 4, and a boundary wall of varying heights enclosing the site.
