Troon, Southwood Road, Monktonhall

Troon, Southwood Road, Monktonhall is a large Arts and Crafts house built in 1910 by Henry Edward Clifford and Thomas Lunan. This two-storey, L-plan building features multiple gables with distinctive classical detailing. The gables are adorned with dentilled detailing, and there is a Roman Doric columned entrance porch located at the re-entrant angle on the northwest side. The exterior is finished with concrete harl.

The symmetrical garden front facing south includes tall, square-headed, parapetted curved bays at the outer edges, which are connected by a curved verandah supported by four columns. The roof is covered with a mix of grey and rosemary tiles. The windows include some 8-pane timber casement windows, alongside some non-traditional replacement windows. The house also has several coped ridge stacks.

While the interior has not been inspected, recent photographs from 2013 reveal some rooms featuring timber panelling and a fireplace set within a timber inglenook, as well as decorative cornicing.
