Description

43 Esslemont Road is a house designed by H E Clifford in 1911. It is a two-storey building with an attic and has a rectangular plan. The exterior is made of squared and snecked sandstone, featuring polished ashlar dressings and a cornice.

The entrance elevation faces southwest and includes a single-storey entrance porch with a cornice. The porch has a four-centred arch with a keystone, and to the right, there is a tripartite window. The central bay of the ground floor features a tripartite window with stone mullions, which is mirrored by another tripartite window on the first floor above. The second storey has a tripartite dormer, while the ground floor bay to the left has a six-light canted window with stone mullions. Above this, on the first floor, is a stone-mullioned quadripartite window, with a quadripartite dormer on the second floor. The bay to the right has a full-height four-light bowed window, and there is also a quadripartite dormer in the attic.

The windows are primarily two-pane timber sash and case, although the dormer windows were replaced with PVCu in 1997. The leaded window in the porch features stained glass motifs. The roof is covered with grey slate and has a piended design, with shouldered and deeply corniced gablehead stacks, a ridge stack, and a mutual corniced stack shared with 37 Esslemont Road. The building has tall moulded cans and coped skews.

The interior was not seen in 1997. The property is enclosed by low coped boundary walls along Mayfield Road and Esslemont Road.
