Gardener's Cottage, Grey Gables, Southwood Road, Monkton

The Gardener's Cottage and stables, located at 3 Grey Gables, Southwood Road, Monkton, were built around 1908. The complex is arranged in a U-shape, encompassing both stables and a gardener’s house situated in the northwestern wing. The construction employs stugged and snecked sandstone rubble, with repointing evident. The roof is low-swept and slated, mirroring the house's design. The roofline sweeps east and west from the ridge over dormer windows, then sets back behind the dormers, continuing down to overhang the ground floor. Mullioned windows, both bipartite (divided into two sections) and tripartite (divided into three sections), feature leaded glazing, although the north-facing courtyard elevations have been altered with modern doors and windows. Wallhead gables are present at the northwest and northeast re-entrant angles. The northwest gable contains a tripartite attic window, while the northeast gable features a hayloft opening with a hoist at its apex. A decorative cupola sits centrally on the ridge, supported by eight dwarf columns on a corniced plinth, with a corniced section above. This leads to a leaded cupola topped with a finial.
