Description

Dunalton House Lodge, designed by James Scott Hay in 1906, is a two-storey, L-plan, multi-gabled house in the Arts and Crafts style, set within its own grounds. The exterior features white render with red sandstone margins, raised cills, overhanging eaves, timber bargeboards, and some red hanging tiles at the gable apices. The building has advanced bays, including one canted bay with a piended roof. Off-centre steps lead to a Tudor-arched doorway that is moulded and corniced, with a carved coat of arms above it. The entrance door is panelled timber, and to the left is a four-light projecting window bay. The windows vary in design, including bi-partite and tri-partite arrangements, and there is a round turret on the left topped with a candle-snuffer roof.

At the rear (southwest) is a square-plan tower with a viewing platform and an attached stair turret. The windows are predominantly six-pane over plate glass timber sash and case, with some fixed multi-pane windows. The roof is covered with red tiles, and there are tall, corniced wallhead and gable stacks.

The lodge is a two-storey, square-plan gabled structure in the Arts and Crafts style, featuring a distinctive bell-cast roofed stair tower. It has timber bargeboarding, raised cills, and overhanging eaves, with hanging red tiles. The windows are mainly four-pane over plate glass timber sash and case, with some casement windows.
