Description
2 Charlotte Street in Ayr is a pair of mirrored tenements built in the later 19th century. The building is two stories high and has ten bays, constructed from coursed, squared sandstone. It features a base course, eaves course, and cornice, with architraves around the window openings.
The south elevation, which serves as the entrance, has steps leading up to central doorpieces that are both architraved and corniced. The central bays rise to form gabled wallhead stacks. The doors are made of timber and have letterbox fanlights above them. There are single windows on either side at both the ground and first floors, while the outer bays have bipartite windows at these levels.
The outer bays are fitted with plate glass timber sash and case windows, while the inner bays have 4-pane windows at the first floor, specifically for No 6. The roof is covered with grey slate, featuring stone skews, coped gableheads, ridge and wallhead stacks, and circular cans.
The interiors were not seen in 1998.
