Description
4 Canongate in Jedburgh is a tenement building from the earlier to mid 19th century. It stands three storeys high with an attic and features a four-bay façade made of stugged cream sandstone. The ground floor includes a three-bay shop on the left, which has moulded reveals, a panelled two-leaf door with a letterbox fanlight in the centre, and flanking two-pane vertically divided shop windows. There is a plain fascia with an awning box above the shop. To the right, there is a deep-set panelled door with a rectangular fanlight, along with another boarded door leading to a store at the rear; both doors are topped with a single cornice.
The upper floors have windows in all bays, with moulded eaves supporting the gutter. The building features a pair of tripartite timber flat-roofed box dormers. The windows are four-pane timber sash and case, while the dormers have six-pane casements. The building has a rebuilt brick stack and is covered with grey slates.
