Description
Garths Of Gardie is an early 19th-century former laird's house located in Mid Yell, Yell. It is a two-storey, three-bay near-symmetrical house with a rectangular plan. To the east, there is a single-storey, two-bay outbuilding, and to the west, a single-storey barn that adjoins the northwest corner of the house. The walls are made of random rubble.
The south elevation of the house is near-symmetrical, with the central bay slightly off-set to the left. The entrance door is located in the centre bay, flanked by windows in the adjacent bays, while the first floor features regular fenestration. The east gable has two bays, with windows in the left bay at both the ground and first floor. The rear elevation has a door off-set to the right of centre and a single window centred at the first floor. The west gable is blank.
The east outbuilding has a south elevation featuring a window to the right of centre and a door to the outer left, with a small window to the left in the east gable. The barn has a gabled roof, with a door centred in the east gable and another door to the right of centre on the south elevation.
The house has a corrugated-iron roof, while the barn has a tarred roof with concrete skew-copes. The house features harled gablehead stacks with concrete copes and circular cans. The east outbuilding is roofless and has a rubble stone-coped stack on the east gable.
Surrounding the house is a garden enclosed by drystone walls, which extend from the outbuildings to the east and west to enclose fields.
