Description
Orwell Cottage, located on Crown Lane in Jedburgh, is an earlier 19th-century building that incorporates some earlier fabric. It features a three-storey, two-bay tower constructed from sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings and cills. There is an irregular two-storey link to the west, which provides access to a flat in the tower and a dentist's surgery. The outer corners of the building are rounded at the ground level and transition to square above.
On the northeast elevation, there are two bays with doors at the ground level, although the left door is blocked. Windows are present in all bays above. The link to the right has a pair of panelled doors with two-pane fanlights, a bipartite window at the ground level, and another panelled door within a pilastered doorcase, along with three windows above.
The east elevation features a broad single bay that is blank at the ground level, with rounded angles at the base. The south elevation is also blank but has a wallhead stack to the right and adjoins an extension to the former Bank House, which is listed separately.
The building has four and twelve-pane timber sash and case windows, a piended roof covered with grey slates, and a brick stack.
