Description
Liddelbank is a late 18th century country house, positioned in a picturesque setting. The house is two and three storeys high, with a basement. Its plan is unusual, consisting of only one room in depth. It is constructed from squared and coursed rubble with ashlar dressings.
The main elevation features a central block of three storeys, with a central entrance bay flanked by two full-height, three-window bowed projections. Lower, two-bay, two-storey wings extend from either side. The central entrance is emphasized by a pilastered and pedimented doorpiece, which incorporates a decorative fanlight. The windows are predominantly 12-pane sash and case, with those in the centre of the bowed projections being blind. Tall stacks are located on the outer wall of the three-bay section.
The rear elevation is built into a slope and includes an additional, covered corridor providing rear access.
The interior is simply detailed, and the original chimney pieces are no longer present. Access to the wings, which likely served as service areas, is surprisingly restricted.
The statutory address of the property is Liddel Bank.
