1 and 2 Railway Cottages, Crumstane Lye, Duns

1 and 2 Railway Cottages, located at Crumstane Lye in Duns, date from around 1890. These are single-storey, six-bay cottages constructed of stugged ashlar, featuring stop-chamfered droved ashlar margins around the windows. The side elevations are made of stugged squared and snecked ashlar, and there is a harled flat-roofed addition at the center of each cottage. Each cottage has a gabled porch with timber posts and tapering pilasters on the southeast (principal) elevation, which includes a boarded door and a two-pane fanlight above, along with wrought-iron hinges. The flanking bays have tripartite windows.

The cottages have timber sash and case windows, with four-pane upper sashes and plate glass in the lower sashes. The roof is covered with slate, featuring exposed rafters and terracotta ridge tiles, and there are ashlar coped wallheads with shared stacks. The interior was not seen during the last inspection in 1995.
