Description
The principal gateway and walls of Langton House were designed by David Bryce in the later 19th century and are built in an ashlar Jacobean style. The gateway features pulvinated bands on the gatepiers and nailhead panels on the central pilasters positioned between these bands. There is a corniced doorpiece for the pedestrian entrances on either side, which are topped with openwork linked octagonal strapwork pediments. The flanking walls are adorned with ashlar balustrading, which ends on each side with banded coped piers topped by obelisks. Additionally, there are banded gatepiers at the entrance next to the North Lodge, located to the north of the principal gate, which include a quadrant wall leading to a coped pier that is surmounted by an ashlar classical urn.
