West Lodge And Gate Piers, Balcaskie House

West Lodge and Gate Piers at Balcaskie House were designed by Burn and Bryce between 1843 and 1844. This asymmetrical, single-storey gate lodge is built of ashlar stone and features chamfered reveals. There is a modern harled addition on the east side.

On the west elevation, the entrance is located in an off-centre gabled porch, with an advanced left bay that is canted and curves to a square shape at the eaves. There is a window in the south gable and another in the projecting gabled bay on the north elevation. The lodge has projecting eaves and simple barge boards with pendants in the gable heads above plaques. It also includes two stacks with twisted flues and a variety of roof levels, all covered with slate.

The property features two decorative wrought-iron gates, dating from around 1940, leading to the drive and obelisk piers. The circular outer piers have projecting flat conical caps and are linked by low ashlar coping with a chain supported on iron posts.
