Description
7 Canongate in Jedburgh is an earlier 18th-century tenement with late 19th-century additions and alterations. It stands three stories high with an attic and features three bays, including a shop on the ground floor. The building is constructed of sandstone rubble, which was originally rendered, and has cream ashlar dressings. The ground floor shop has a central two-leaf panelled door, flanked by plate glass windows above a base course, and a modern glazed door leading to the house on the right. Decorative brackets support the cornice and fascia. The upper floors have corniced windows in each bay, while gabled ashlar dormers break the moulded eaves in the outer bays.
The rear elevation is made of irregular rubble and includes a sunken door that is accessed from Abbey Place. The windows are 4-pane timber sash and case, although they are replacements, and feature horns. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there is a rubble stack and ashlar skews.
