Description
6 Abbey Place in Jedburgh is an early 19th-century tenement building that stands three stories tall and features three bays. Constructed from coursed pink sandstone, it was likely originally rendered. The building has raised painted ashlar margins and cills. The ground floor has a five-bay pilastered shopfront, which was originally designed as a pair of shops, with round-headed openings that create the appearance of an arcade. There is a base course, and alternate bays have deeply-aproned windows, with replacement doors situated in between, accessed by four steps. The pilasters support a modern flat fascia board.
On the upper floors, there is a window in each bay, with the second-floor windows being shorter and positioned under moulded eaves. The windows are 12-pane timber sash and case, while the ground floor features plate glass with ripple glass in the window heads. The building has a cast-iron gutter and an obtrusive downpipe, along with a rebuilt brick stack.
