Wyndhead Stables Lodge, East High Street

Wyndhead Stables Lodge is a single-storey gate lodge designed by William Burn around 1841. It has a rectangular plan with three bays and features crowstep gables. The lodge is situated on sloping ground at the west entrance to the Thirlestane Castle estate, facing Galashiels Road. It is constructed from squared and snecked greywacke rubble, accented with red sandstone ashlar dressings and chamfered margins.

A basket-arched porch recess is located at the northeast gable angle. To the left of the porch, there are two narrow windows with diamond-pattern glazing, and above the center, there is a square recessed panel. The west elevation includes a timber door and a later canted window with a slated piend roof to the right, along with another window at the far right.

The east elevation features a lean-to addition that extends the full length and returns to part of the south elevation. The north gable has fixed-frame timber windows with diamond-lattice glazing, while the other windows have predominantly non-traditional glazing. The roof is covered with grey slate and has a tall coped ridge stack with clay cans. A low coped rubble wall defines the garden area, which slopes away to the east.
