Firknowe, Neidpath Road, Peebles

Firknowe is an early 19th century, two-storey, three-bay gabled house located on a raised site along Neidpath Road in Peebles. The exterior features dry-dash with droved ashlar dressings and long and short quoins on the front.

The south elevation is symmetrical with regular fenestration, including a central door. The ground floor windows have been enlarged and now feature concrete lintels and cills. The west pavilion, which serves as the kitchen, has a picture window, while the east pavilion, incorporated into the sitting room, has a smaller window.

On the east elevation, the pavilion includes a window to the right and a gable detail at the apex, with a small window in the gablehead of the main block. The north elevation is mostly blank, with a stair window at the center and a later window to the right on the first floor. The west elevation features the pavilion, and the attic window in the gablehead of the main block has been filled in, although the window remains inside.

The house has modern timber plate glass windows with smaller opening upper sashes and a 12-pane stair window. The main block is covered with terracotta tiles, while the pavilions have grey slates and rendered apex stacks.

Inside, there is a cellar in the eastern half of the house. The interior has largely been gutted, but some panelled shutters are still present.
