Description

1-11 Abbey Bridge End in Jedburgh is a mid-19th century, three-storey, five-bay L-plan tenement. It is constructed from cream and pink dressed rubble sandstone and features regular fenestration.

The east elevation has five bays with three doors that have 4-pane letterbox fanlights, located at the slightly sunk ground floor in the second and fourth bays from the left, and one between the outer bays to the right. The north elevation also has five bays, with the two left bays under a gable, the outer one being blank. The three central and right bays are regularly fenestrated at the first and second floors.

On the west elevation, there is an advanced blank gable on the left with a single attic window, and a single-storey piend-roofed addition at ground level. To the right, there is a re-entrant angle with a round stair tower featuring a conical roof, which was built as part of a recent refurbishment. There is also a single bay to the right and a blank bay beyond, with a single-storey addition similar to the previous one.

The south elevation includes a single-storey addition and two bays to the left, along with the stair tower as mentioned earlier. To the right, there is an advanced gable end with a window on each floor and a single-storey addition to the left that masks the stair tower.

The building features 12-pane timber sash and case windows, grey slate roofing, and ashlar-faced and coped stacks, as well as ashlar skews and skewputts. The boundary walls are made of rubble with semi-circular coping at the rear.
