5, 7 Bridge Street, Kelso

5 and 7 Bridge Street in Kelso is a building from the later 18th century that was altered in the late 19th century. Originally, it had seven bays and two storeys, but it was raised to three storeys during the late 19th century.

On the ground floor, there are paired pilasters at the ends that may date back to an earlier or mid-19th century shop front. The broad canted bay and the central door, which features an oversailing cornice supported by brackets, are later 19th-century additions. The upper floors are rendered and have rusticated angle quoins and moulded window architraves. The centre window has been altered to include a Venetian moulded architrave, which appears to have been inserted in the middle of the new second floor, while the other windows on this floor have plain margins. The building has a cornice at the wallhead, straight skews, brick stacks, and a slated roof.
