Description

  1. Baronial. Single storey and attic rectangular block.

Squared rubble with ashlar dressings. All elevations

asymmetrical each having advanced outer bays with

crowstepped gables. North and south have central gables.

East has advanced centre gable with segmental pend and

skews with kneelers some apex stacks, some facetted and

paired. Variety of doors and windows, latter often

transomed and mullioned. Some raised through eaves and

gabletted. One canted window with battlemented parapet

to left gable at east. Upper windows of gables round

headed or with round pediments. 2 circular, 2-storey

towers with conical slate roofs one at south east corner

with gabletted window raised through eaves. Other in

re-entrant angle to west elevation; both have doors that

to south-east architraved and segmentally headed with

string course raised over; that to west flat-headed but

in semi-circular tympanum and string course raised

over. Slate roofs to rest with ashlar stacks and ridge

roof ventilators, one on south elevation being square with

louvres and ogival lead cap and wind vane. Bargeboarded

dormer also to south. To east and west timber framed

gables end of roof covering centre block with slates and

skylights. Horsehead finials to gables.

4 ashlar gatepiers with diamond-facetted rustication.
